I've never taken a skills clinic, how do I know this is right for me?
This skills clinic is designed for all levels of rider. As far as we're concerned, the sky is the limit with MTB skills so we can always improve, no matter our skill set. Upon booking your spot, we will send you a detailed questionaire that will give us an idea of your skill level and learning needs/interests. We will use that information to form groups based on skill level. This will ensure that you are working on skills that are relevant to you.
-
How much biking experience do I need to participate?
Basic mountain biking skills are necessary to participate in the Women’s Shred Fest. You should be able to balance on the bike, easily shift up and down through the gears, and have a basic understanding of braking. It is also recommended that you have experience riding on moderately narrow singletrack trails, though this is not required.
-
Do I need a downhill bike to participate?
It is not necessary to have a downhill specific bike to participate in the Women’s Shred Fest. For the more beginner and intermediate groups, the trails being utilized will be easily navigable with an all mountain or enduro bike. For more advanced riders, it is up to rider discretion whether they would like to ride an all mountain or downhill specific bike. A full suspension bike is highly recommended for all participants.
-
Is this event for downhill bikers only?
Shred Fest is for all levels and style of rider. Participants will split into groups based on their skill level and what they wish to focus on for the weekend. We will use the chairlifts for easy access to the trails. If this will be your first time loading a chairlift, don't worry, we will show you how!
-
What do I need to bring?
All participants should bring their bike, mountain biking shoes, helmet, hydration pack, riding snacks, electrolyte replacements, lunch for each day, a spare tube and any personal medications or personal first aid. A detailed equipment list is listed under the Details tab and can also be seen HERE.
-
What kinds of skills will we work on?
The skills will vary based on each group. Each rider will fill out a questionnaire prior to the Women’s Shred Fest Weekend that will be used to separate participants into similar skill level groups. Skills covered will vary group to group and will include subjects such as braking, cornering, dynamic riding, technical riding, roll downs, jumps, drops and advanced riding techniques. A more detailed explanation can be found in the Program tab.
-
I’m nervous about riding in the bike park, will we be doing a lot of jumps and technical riding?
Don’t worry, this weekend is designed for riders of all ability levels. Jumps and drops will only be included in the advanced group. The beginner group will not be doing any jumps or drops and the intermediate/intermediate+ group may do an intro to drops lesson if that is of interest to the group.
-
What if I don't know how to ride a chairlift with my bike?
No worries! Our coaches will teach you how and by the end of the day you’ll be a pro! Plus, there are lift operators there to help out and make it easy for you.
-
Do I have to attend the whole weekend? Can I participate in one day only?
It is highly recomended that all participants join us for the full weekend. You will get the most out of the expereince by joining for both days.
